May 19, 2007 Day 30
I wanted to explain the reason for having a gap between the time I do the art and write about it, and the time I publish this post. In order to show you the art, I have to take photos of it, and this needs to be done in my studio. Thus, it would be impossible to do while traveling, and that's the reason for the delay.
I just got an email from someone saying they want to make a purchase, but I suspect it is scam mail. Artists get these all the time. The buyer ends up wanting to send you a check for more than the art is worth and asks you to send them a refund. By the time you find out their check is bad, you've already lost what you sent as the refund. Or perhaps you just send the art and lose that. In any case, they are out there trying to scam money off you.
Some of the clues I look for to identify the scam and not even bother replying: (1) When they refer to my art in general ways rather than identifying a specific piece they are interested in. (2) When they ask for price, condition of artwork, and shipping costs when these are printed right on my website. There are other subtle clues you learn to pick up after a while. I do know of artists who have lost money and art this way.
I decided to use a black pen only this morning for my drawing:
I feel that the drawings are falling into familiar patterns and that they lack the passion of my paintings. It is not so easy to "go wild" in a drawing. Paint lends itself better to that. But maybe I just need to find a different path to wildness in the drawings.
Next, I completed the top and bottom edges of Canvas #9, which is the last one I had. There will be no more painting until I stretch some new canvases, so that will be my task after drawing each day.
First, however, I will pack the eight paintings for my show in Nyack. Today is a Saturday, and I always have the vague feeling on weekends that I should be out there "having fun," but work is what I like to do. Adrian is busy digging holes for some trees and bushes he ordered for the yard, so he is obsessed with work also. If he has the energy, maybe we'll go for a walk later.
(Note: There is a gap between the dates I'm writing and posting because I had to give myself time to get ahead in case we travel and I'm not able to post.)
