A Year of Making Art: Day 59
June 17, 2007 Day 59
We had an excellent hike yesterday, stopping along the way to let the kids wade in the water. We parked one car at the top of the Treman State Park gorge and one at the bottom, so that we could walk from the top down without having to go back up. This is one of the more spectacular parks in the Ithaca area, with one gorgeous waterfall after another.
I've had a few phone call inquiries this week about my art, and after each one, ended up feeling that I'd botched the conversation. I often can't hear clearly, don't ask the right questions, and act like I can't wait to get off the phone. Sister Laura said, "You're an artist, not a salesperson," but if you are not good with sales, you sell less art. I do much better answering email inquries where I can plan and think and review before sending off a reply.
This morning I had no idea what to draw and started to rush, ending up using mostly blacks and grays with a touch of red. The result seemed constipated to me.
I then finished the second layer of background on three new paintings. Not sure I'll get a chance to paint much this week with houseguests arriving on Wednesday.
(Note: There is a gap between the dates I'm writing and posting because I had to give myself time to get ahead in case we travel and I'm not able to post.)
