July 27, 2007 Day 99
This morning I made my one hundredth drawing in this 365-day project. I used the brush pens again, and had quite a loose and light image until I blew that feeling with some dark enclosing lines that restrained the movement. I tried to get it back, but didn't quite make it.
Next, I went to work on canvas #15, attemption to tone down the bright yellow, orange and red, while maintaining a feeling of lightness. I wanted the under-painting to show through, so I used thin washes of greens, pale yellow, and rose. Burnt umber lines completed my work for the day.
Here is the background Canvas 15 started with. I made two of these backgrounds, and will work on the second one tomorrow:
After a hike with two neighbors yesterday afternoon, we took a tour of one of their extensive gardens. It amazes me how people can create these huge flower gardens. My own few attempts to plant anything have always ended up with pathetic or non-existent results. Yet I see how a dedicated gardener can create a living canvas of color and form.
(Note: There is a gap between the dates I'm writing and posting because I had to give myself time to get ahead in case we travel and I'm not able to post.)
