September 3, 2007 Day 137
I almost forgot it was a holiday today, since it felt like any other Monday to me, but then I realized there would be no mail delivered and no garbage picked up.
I am excited because my sister Laura is coming to stay with us for ten days. Her husband will come for the first three. They are arriving in a couple of days, so I need to get ahead on my blog postings and other administrative stuff in order to relax and enjoy their visit.
My drawing this morning was a bit easier than yesterday's. I began with chaos, but gradually worked the blue-green color scheme into patterns and points of emphasis. I felt OK about it in the end, recognizing that it is just one of 365 drawings I will be doing this year. No point in agonizing over any single one. Better to get into the flow and let them take me where they will.
I got an email today from X, who told me he had done lots of landscapes and abstract painting until he quit smoking ten years ago. He has had a studio and an easel in it with a blank canvas all ready to go. For ten years.
What makes us stop painting? What makes us start?
(Note: There is a gap between the dates I'm writing and posting in order to give me time to get ahead in case we travel and I'm not able to post.)
