August 27,2007 Day 130
I wonder if the difficulty I'm having with my drawings lately is due to all this writing about it? Have I put so many words around the process that my intuitive self is being over-managed by the supervisor? That would be a neat excuse for giving up writing about my art altogether, but I don't really think it's valid.
Rather, I think I'm just going through a bad patch that happens when you make art of any kind every day. Some days are going to be better and some worse than others. For me, it's important to keep pushing and not give up.
My drawing this morning was another struggle. I created a big problem to solve, and didn't solve it quite successfully. It was a valiant effort, though.
Being bummed out about drawing and painting, I knew I'd better start some new canvases right away, no matter what. After making two "backgrounds," I took one of the ready-made canvases that arrived yesterday and tried starting without doing a background first. The ready-made canvases are primed differently than mine, and not as dry. I tend to need the backgrounds on my canvases just to soak up that dryness.
This new attempt was actually fun for a change:
(Note: There is a gap between the dates I'm writing and posting in order to give me time to get ahead in case we travel and I'm not able to post.)
