Yesterday I used the last sheet of 12" x 9" drawing paper, so I had to start the 11" x 14" pad today. Going up in size can be traumatic, but it felt fine today. Actually, it is often harder to go from large to small.

When I am painting, it is much harder to work on a small size, and I find it impossible to work on a canvas smaller than 24" x 24". I did some 18" x 24" a few years ago, and even one 16" x 12", but a small size does not fit my style of painting. For the broad, gestural strokes I often use, the larger the canvas, the better.
(Note: There is a gap between the dates I'm writing and posting in order to give me time to get ahead.)
