In my last post I showed the background of a new abstract painting on canvas, 48" x 36". I always paint my backgrounds in two stages, turning the canvas 90 degrees and painting the sides as well as the front. This gives the canvas a rich double layer of color.
Next I began the painting process, using a brush and paint directly from the tube: cadmium yellow, cadmium orange, pyrole crimson, green gold, and unbleached titanium. After that, I used soft washes (paint mixed with water and gloss medium) of pale yellow and pale green. Here's what I have so far:
