Some days one never finds the inspiration, but it is important to keep working anyway. Typically I become engrossed in the process and am no longer thinking about motivation or how to approach the canvas. I get into an automatic process where my eyes and hands work together selecting color, brush, and so forth.
I'm usually more relaxed in the beginning stages of a painting because there is no compulsion to make it into a completed work of art. And that's when exciting things can happen.
